OVERVIEW

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au.

Students enjoy a supportive learning environment where care and attention is given to their individual needs. Credit for previous community services experience may apply.

This program is delivered using a blended learning mode. Students attend regular on-campus sessions each month, supported by self paced online learning. Each learner has a dedicated Educator to provide support through their learning journey.

VET STUDENT LOANS

Eligible students will be entitled for loans up to a capped amount. Students will need to contribute the difference if the total course fee exceeds the loan cap for a course. A loan cap of $10,000 applies to this program.

CONTENT

There are a total of 28 units of competency required for successful completion of this qualification, a list of the required units have been included on the following page.

This qualification includes Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care (CHC30113).

INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Participants will be required to undertake a minimum of 240 hours of professional industry placement within an approved Early Childhood Education & Care Centre for successful completion of this qualification. Professional practice hours should be treated as a guide only.

It is a condition of the program that all students undertake professional practice placement (industry placement). This is generally completed part time in addition to your on campus learning commitment. EQUALS encourages individuals to source their own placements however assistance is provided where needed. If you are already working in a registered and approved child care centre, you are able to undertake your industry experience within your workplace.

INTAKES

January, April, July & October Intakes 

Important: To be considered for an intake, completed applications should be received no later than 30 days prior to the scheduled course commencement date. Applications that are incomplete or incorrect may not be considered. Course offers for applications received by the due date are not guaranteed and intake capacity may vary. EQUALS reserves the right to accept or decline applications at its total discretion.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants will need to have a passion for working with children. An entry health & skills questionnaire and interview will be required prior to enrolment.

Applicants seeking enrolment in a Blended Mode study option must show evidence of current employment in an approved Early Childhood Education & Care setting.

Current and valid Provide First Aid certificate, Department of Communities & Social Inclusion (DCSI) Screening Check for working with children, & Physical Fitness are required for this program.

If you do not hold a current DCSI check, you are required to apply through DCSI at the time of application for enrolment at EQUALS. A DCSI check must be acquired prior to industry placement. Visit www.dcsi.sa.gov.au/services/screening for further information.

Please note that the outcome of your DCSI screening check may affect industry placement opportunities, and that this is at the discretion of placement host facilities.

Students are also expected to hold a current Child Safe Environments Certificate prior to attending professional practice placement.
