English for
Academic Purposes

OVERVIEW

Need to improve your English language skills? Let us help you achieve your goals!

EQUALS International delivers competency based qualifications in a wide range of industry areas. Many students from non-English speaking backgrounds are faced with the challenge to achieve higher levels of English proficiency. At EQUALS we understand the very real demands on students who are striving to achieve this goal. As all of EQUALS International mainstream programs are taught in English, students are required to demonstrate a level of English language proficiency in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking which meets the entry requirements of these courses. Our ELICOS programs are designed to assist those students who do not yet meet their mainstream course English language pre-requisites.

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course has been designed to assist students to develop the academic English language and study skills that are so important to successful studies in Australian vocational courses and future academic studies in Australian higher education.

Studying in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course at EQUALS International offers students the opportunity to increase their English language proficiency and at the same time, be supported by the social and welfare support framework that our team of experienced staff can offer. Whether it is adjusting to the challenges of living and studying in Australia, helping to secure employment or perhaps integrating into community life, our staff will assist students in achieving success and support them to articulate into their planned future course.

CONTENT

With a strong focus on developing cultural competence and a greater sense of self-confidence, our experienced English Teachers and support staff create a motivating, rewarding and supportive environment.

In this way we work to create a balanced approach to English language learning and skill development. Equally important is the focus on understanding Australian cultural norms and practices, and developing the skills and confidence to integrate into community life in Australia. Whether it’s finding part time employment or negotiating simple transactions, students will value the outcomes they achieve, being increased self-confidence and cultural competence and increased English language skills.

All ELICOS students will study across a range of content areas, including:
